Storyline:The storm is still raging, and Dr. Webber is nowhere to be found. But he's doing the voiceover, remembering the moment he went from being an intern to being a doctor. "They say your life flashes before your eyes right before you die," he says. "The important moments. The moments that tested you. The moments that made you who you are."
Callie and Arizona are finishing their fight, and Jackson is reminding April that she's getting married. Bailey has Dr. Webber paged, but he's lying on the floor in the basement, apparently dead.
The next morning, no one knows where Webber is. Hunt suggests the ER needs to be closed because it's understocked. Meredith, who just had a baby, says she can get in touch with the suppliers. Callie abruptly announces that Dr. Boswell, who Jackson just referenced, is "the woman Arizona slept with last night."
A bunch of cops and firefighters are coming in after a mud slide in the area. Leah is tired and hungry and looking to leave, but she's going to stay.
Alex and Jo are making out in an on-call room. Jo asks if he had sex with Leah and Heather in the same room and Alex says nothing. She decides she can do it anyway. Alex gets paged, but Jo wants to go through with it anyway. Until she realizes that she's now worried people could be dying.
Lenny, the captain of a ladder company, is brought into the ER. He was helping an old lady out of her house. He suddenly starts spitting up mud from his lungs. Hunt looks worried.
Cristina tells Meredith that she and Owen "ended it," but Meredith says that won't last. Cristina wants to take a nap but gets paged. Hunt has the old lady the captain asked about and asks Alex to relay the news to the captain. Derek asks Shane to get Heather onto a neuro case. Bailey starts looking around the ER and asks Shane to go find Dr. Webber.
Cristina tells Shane that Webber went to check on the generator, but she doesn't know where that is. Shane runs into Heather and tells her that Derek wanted her to go find Webber. He tells her Webber had gone to check the generator.
Jackson is helping a woman who was injured in the mud slide. A colleague of hers named Tilden tells her that Brian, her fiancé, is unaccounted for. He assures her she shouldn't worry.
Heather is in the basement and finds Webber laying face down on the floor. She walks toward him, despite all the buzzing sparks and, when she steps into a puddle, seizes up and falls over, hitting her head. Webber's eyes fluttered open for a moment, he seemed to see her, but couldn't move.
Alex and Hunt are working on a patient and Jo warns them not to give him a penicillin-like drug because he's allergic. She knows this because it was written with a marker on his leg. Hunt says it's an old military trick. Someone triaged some of the patients on the scene and might have provided other medical indications in marker. Arizona's patient, based on the blood pressure written on his chest from the field, is getting worse. Callie shows up and helps Arizona with the patient, but wants Bailey to do the surgery instead of Arizona.
Shane tells Derek that Heather was busy so he did the brain scan. Derek tells Shane to find Heather and get her back on the case.
Lenny is getting a chest tube and the tube spits out "poop" on Stephanie. Hunt says the man's colon has been pushed up into his chest. Hunt asks Stephanie to get Bailey to take over the ER while he goes into surgery. Bailey says someone needs to find Webber.
Shane is now in the basement and sees Heather on the floor. He sees Webber and the wire sitting in the water. Webber and Heather are brought into the ER and Shane is paralyzed with fear. Cristina starts trying to revive Webber while Derek takes Heather.
Everyone is distracted knowing that Webber is unconscious. Alex goes to see a guy named Oscar and makes a note on his leg with a marker.
Callie goes to scrub in and Arizona comes in asking that Callie put their problems aside while they do the surgery. Bailey was busy.
Derek and Shane are looking at Heather's scans, telling Shane it's fortunate he found Heather and Webber. Shane is still stunned.
Jackson is still working on the woman, Sasha, and tells her it's important he clean out the wound. Oscar comes into her room to chat and Sasha notices the writing on Oscar's leg, recognizing it as Brian's. Oscar doesn't remember.
Alex comes into Meredith's hospital room, where she's still recovering. He's running around like crazy and Meredith asks him to pick up the baby. He does and calms down enough to tell Meredith about Webber and Heather.
Cristina is trying to insert a balloon pump into Webber's heart bedside, which Hunt is concerned can rupture the aorta. Bailey is watching intently, talking Cristina through it by telling her how awesome she is. Cristina looks oddly relieved. Bailey gives her a huge hug and demands that Cristina hug her back. She does.
Stephanie is working on Mrs. Ashford, who is still asking about her house (she'd asked Derek about it earlier). Stephanie keeps examining her eyes but Mrs. Ashford wants to know about her house. Stephanie yells at her and tells her to stop worrying about her house.
Bailey is worried about Webber's acute abdomen. Cristina says Bailey can't open him up in the situation Webber is in. Bailey says he'll die if they do nothing. Bailey pulls rank on Cristina, telling her she's the attending and Cristina is a fellow, but Cristina pulls it right back, saying, "Well, I own this hospital. You work for me."
Derek and Shane are scrubbing up for Heather's operation and Derek is talking Shane through the prep. Shane is still stunned and uncertain about whether he can handle it.
Brian shows up and Sasha kisses him. He's all muddy and thinks he might have broken some ribs. He asks about Lenny and Sasha says she doesn't know how he's doing.
Hunt and April are still standing over Lenny, trying to keep him alive. But Hunt has to call it. Lenny is gone.
The firefighters are all now standing around Sasha's bed after getting the news that Lenny is gone. Brian says they should bring Lenny's wife in, "full lights and sirens." Sasha says someone named Lowenstein is still unaccounted for and they need to find him for Lenny.
Cristina and Bailey bring their cases to Hunt, who only wants to know what Webber's paperwork says about extraordinary measures. The trio heads to the basement, where the lights are still flickering. Cristina finds a file cabinet and sees that Webber made Meredith his medical power of attorney. In Meredith's room now, Hunt tells her that even though she's shocked, she needs to make a decision.
Cristina and Bailey immediately start making their cases to Meredith. The pair start to argue with each other, making extreme claims and telling each other they sound like idiots.
Derek is working on Heather. Leah is watching from the gallery when Jo and Stephanie come in. Leah tries to lighten the mood by saying that Shane should be happy Heather's is out of the running for neuro cases. Stephanie says that's mean and she and Leah argue about whether Stephanie even likes Heather.
Meredith tells Hunt, Cristina and Bailey that she's been wishing her mother could be around to see her granddaughter. Meredith says she can't trust her delusional thoughts. She says they should run the labs and if the result is above 6, they'll do the surgery and if not, they won't.
Stephanie asks one of the firefighters if the home at the address her old lady patient has been asking about is still standing. He lights up and says, "Sharpie Lady?" He explains that when she saw the firefighters consumed by the mud slide she ran back into her house and grabbed a Sharpie and started pulling firefighters out of the mud and taking their vitals. He says he feels bad for having yelled at her when she ran back inside. Stephanie seems to feel bad, too.
Callie is holding Meredith's baby in her room now. Callie recalls the time Webber caught her living in the hospital, while she was dancing in her underwear. She seems sad and tells Meredith, "Now I don't dance in my underwear anymore."
Hunt comes back with the lab results. The lactate is 9. Meredith says, "Go." The surgery Bailey wants to do is going to happen.
Hunt tells Cristina he thinks the decision was a coin toss. She's worried and tells Hunt to make sure certain things are checked. She makes the notes on his phone.
Leah comes down and tells Jo and Stephanie that the swelling is bad and there's no way Heather is "getting out of this without major deficits."
Jo pulls Alex into a supply closet and tells him she's worried that Heather could die. Then they start kissing. Jo asks if he had sex with any of her friends in that closet. Alex says nothing and Jo leaves. Arizona comes in for actual supplies and then starts rambling to Alex about how this could make her relationship with Callie stronger. Alex suggests she "stick to, 'I'm sorry I'm such a slut,'" when trying to talk to Callie through this.
Stephanie goes to check on Mrs. Ashford, who seems hurt.
Lowenstein is brought in and Brian goes to Sasha's room to tell her that he and the other guys are going back to stabilize some houses. Alex tells Brian not to go anywhere. Jackson comes in and tells Sasha that her she has a flesh-eating bacteria in her wound. He takes her away to take care of it.
Outside the hospital, Lenny's wife is brought up in a police car. She steps out of the car and April greets her. She is walked in and April lets her see her deceased husband. April stands there while the woman looks at her husband. Jackson, conveniently, walks by outside the door.
Webber is headed into surgery. Meredith, in her room, asks Cristina to "be a good friend" and tell her she made the right decision. Cristina says, "You made the right decision," but it's not clear if she believes it.
Shane tells Derek this situation with Heather is all his fault, but Derek talks him through it and tells him he has to be able to handle it. Shane says he can.
Meredith asks Cristina to tell her again that she made the right decision, and Cristina does -- this time more assuredly.
Bailey and Hunt get to work on Webber while Derek and Shane get to work on Heather.
