    Storyline:赵疙瘩是个旧式农民，抗战结束后投靠了在国民党监狱任副职的表舅，做起了厨子。狱中，赵疙瘩一心攒钱迎娶同乡兄弟方贵的妹妹，当他结识了关押在狱中的女共产党员葛红苓之后，思想发生转变。天津解放前夕，组织上得到了赵疙瘩的配合与帮助，营救了狱中同志。赵疙瘩希望葛红苓胜利之后嫁给自己。天津解放，葛红苓得知恋人蒲剑已死，准备履行诺言嫁给赵疙瘩。
