    Storyline:1943年10月，日军分由沙市、岳阳渡过长江和湘江合围常德。国军74军57师代号“虎贲”奉命守城。手握“与城共存亡”的密令，师长余程万心知这是一场无路可退的战斗。百姓全部撤离的常德无异于一座“孤城”，枪声未响，众将士已是“死士”。连长冯葆华坚守前沿。战事吃紧让他与爱人婉清新婚之夜后便生生分离，念郎情切的婉清尾随而至，成为一名战地护士。智勇双全的冯葆华是战士中的灵魂人物，不满16岁的民兵二虎视他为榜样，舍死忘生。
